As with most of the things that I have built, the initial build was inspired, affected and requested by my son, in this instance the request was no small one.
This request was huge, massive, wapping, at least in comparison to the usual request for a toy/model that he could use with his 5" figures.
I was going to say that this request was so big that it felt almost unscalable, but that would be absolutely wrong, because in this instance the scale was 1:1.
The starting point for this entire build was a little toy keyboard that my son just happened to have in his toy collection.
Having purchased the 5" character options toy set for him, all I had to do now was make sure that everything about this Tardis Console matched the toy, including it being able to be taken to pieces, just like the toy and make it from something lightweight so that it could be moved around, especially as I am neither a Doctor nor a Timelord and haven't quite got to grips with quantum physics, yet!
So a junk Tardis from junk, cardboard and insulation foam, all lightweight and moveable, no problem, GULP!

This is definitely beyond any doubt a build! Made out of cardboard and foam board (at least 95 percent or better), and just absolutely staggering! The level of detail: the removable console panel and Central Column and Time Rotor: the background walls: everything!

Saying "Contrats!" on a build like this just seems so weak. Words just fail to get the feeling across. Bravo Zulu, Rob!

Quick question: I did get a brief look at the upgrade you gave to the playset before my browsers crashed (nice job on that as well!), and I was wondering if you had any plans to make the floor that was under this console at some point? (Not that it needs it; it's just personal curiosity.)

           Thank you for the comment and pics, a green envy and five stars, I am honoured.
I am sorry that the build diary is crashing your browser, I do hope it is nothing that I have done or not done, that is causing this problem.
Well spotted about the floor or lack of, there is also a small round platform missing from directly beneath the console.
The small console platform can be added as my son grows, as this was omitted so that he could actually reach all the controls on the panels. So as he grows, no doubt so will the set.
So as to the actual floor with all the holes in it, this could be manufactured to complete the whole feel, but like the background walls, this I could not make from cardboard and make it structurally take all the weight, including a person. Therefore it would have to be made from wood with structural sized timbers.
As currently the whole console and set can be taken apart, moved around, as well as set up quite easily, at the end of a room, the floor may just tip the scales in weight, space and practicality.
But never say never, if one day my son did request the floor to complete the look, I am sure something could be figured out!

Wow. I'm not that familiar with the details and nitty gritty of the original. But I do recognise some bits and pieces. This looks amazingly true to the original and those walls are a work of art and precision engineering!

                     Thank you so much for your comment, I am very pleased that you think that this Junkyard console looks amazingly true to the original, one tries ones best for ones little whovian.
As to the walls being a work of art and precision engineering, I thank you for this comment, I felt that they were needed to sell the console as a whole Junkyard Tardis.
I was, as stated in the build thread, inspired by Jackson Pollock, have toothbrush will travel, or paint with it if necessary.
They did take quite a bit of planning and drawing to get them just right in the flesh so as to speak and therefore fit with some precision not only with each other but fit within the confines of the space available. All made from 4 sheets of hardboard and 14 lengths of small sectional timber, so they are lightweight and can be moved if necessary, just like the cardboard junkyard Tardis console.
I still have yet to master quantum physics, so I suppose that you just have to do the best that you can, with what you have got and within the realms of reality.
