Until Menelaus's photographer springs into action - here's a shot of it that I found somewhere. (My apologies to whoever took this.)

Hmm. My dad's friend is a security guard at Hendon. I wonder if he could get me in to look at it and snap some pics.

Incidentally, if you look on google earth you can just make out the MKIII at Hendon if you zoom in close enough - just thought I'd share that

A Police Box visible from space? How appropriate! What are the longitude and latitude? Could someone find the Crich box or other notable Boxes and post them here? That could be fun... T

My photographer is happy to take some snaps but has been waiting for some decent weather.  Now that the weather has improved I am away from work for a break.
If someone wants to take their own pics I am sure I could arrange something with a bit of notice.

Hi Menelaus, how are you?

I'm seriously considering it, how much notice do you need?

Tom, I've tried endlessly with Google Earth. The entire Crich area (let alone the museum) doesn't appear to be covered, Earls Court is there but I'm not 100% sure what I was looking at!

Tom, the Hendon box is at 51 degrees 35' 31.23" N and 0 degrees 14' 39.12" W elev 138 ft. It's easier however to find the tube track at Hendon and follow it west to Colindale - you go right past it!
Additionally, the Earl's Court box is at 51 degrees 29' 25.33" N and 0 degrees 11' 45.06" W elev 40ft. You have to use a bit of imagination but I'm convinced that's it.

Mark, a week is about the minimum.  Gives me time to make sure we wouldn't be run over.

I've made a kmz file for Google Earth with these two locations.  Hopefully this works.

Hi all
As usual for me, I have no idea where to post this, so maybe someone can "Move it" to where it sit's most comfortably :)
My son Rob is in a a couple of bands, and one of his bandmates is a police cadet at Hendon. He has been told, that his class will be the last, as the site is being sold and will be demolished to make way for a new development, probably housing. We know the Hendon Mk III is a grade II listed building in itself, but this has meant nought in the past, as bith K6 and K2 telephone boxes have been removed, despite having this status :(

Yes, there's a little more info on this site:

Search for "demolish" and you'll find the comment.  Warning, a bit sweary.

Duly merged into this Hendon Box topic in the http://tardisbuilders.com/index.php?board=135.0 of existing boxes, though of course if it does get demolished, we'll have to move the whole topic... :o

Good news! The box has been resited.

Here is an image I just grabbed from Google Earth:

And there's the old girl, slap bang in the middle of the image, right next to the new police training college building.

It looks like it's been given a nice new paint job too, and as the image was grabbed in Street View mode, it looks like the box is more publicly accessible. Hopefully it doesn't mean it's at greater risk of vandalism, what with it being right next to a police college...

Wonder if they found any others in storage whilst they were at it

Slightly different angle:

It's a shame the road closer to it hasn't been given the Street View treatment. This is an incredible opportunity to get a better look at a bit of police box history that there really isn't enough information about - there's only a few pictures of Mk5 boxes as is. Hopefully someone lucky enough will be able to see it up close somewhere down the line.
