Progress this weekend.  Assembled the top panel doors, cut the underneath trapezoids. A few members mentioned the panels underneath did not have trim.  Well, after multiple cuts and fittings, we realized they had gaps.  My son decided he wanted trim to cover the gaps instead of another rounds of cuts.  I agreed, since it is his console.  So not accurate but it did hide the gaps. (Next Console I need to invest in a table saw.)

We then began to measure and cut the panels. They were cut from 1/4 inch ply with a support in the back.

The doors puttied and sanded, ready for staining.

After a day of putty, sanding, more putty, and more sanding with finer grain paper, it was ready for staining.  We gave it a good wipe down and applied Minwax walnut.  After wiping it off, it looked more red than brown.  The test strip looked better.

Hmmm. We are looking at Bakers' to check the color - and determine if we want to (somehow) correct or keep it.

So off to look up photos and watch the DVD.

We cut some of the controls and the drawer, stained, and sanded and goes he shelf for the drawer.

The sanded shelf and drilled holes for lights. My son wanted alternating red and white lights around the back panels. 

Again, he wanted the outside to be as close as possible to the Season 14 Console, but the controls he is customizing for his fan film. We made the panels so they could be replaced later.

Here is the console stained and with the doors attached. I was told that we needed to move the console out of the garage so my wife can park the car, so we disassembled the top from base (only a few screws) and it materialized in my sons' room.

Here is what my son and I accomplished over the holiday.

We bolted down the top of the console to the base using a single 1" thick bolt. My son is helping to tighten the nut.



We then began to wire the lights into the back of the console. (Red/White lights.)

We ran into an issue where the doors to the top console did not match, so we spent time ensuring we had a perfect fit.



Then we began to draw out the controls for the panel.

Again, my son wanted to create his own console controls, the big variation to the original console.
