I was showing this to my wife and she wasn't really impressed. I couldn't figure out why (since it's clearly mind blowing) ... and then I realised she thought it was a full size build. Once I pointed out the correct scale her jaw hit the floor in the appropriate manner.

Incredible work.

Angelus Lupus

At this work-in-progress stage, the only thing that really gives the scale away is the shadows. I'm convinced that the right lighting and camera set-up could genuinely have people mistake this for the real set.
A mixed-up non-conformist, trying to fit in.

It's absolutely astounding. I'm in awe.

Wait, what? She thought somebody had built a full size replica of the Tardis control room and she wasn't impressed? Sheeeesh!

WOW, you certainly did a great job on those handrails & Balusters! Looks very fiddly to me.

Excellent job indeed, love this build, looking forward to seeing more!  :) :D

Chris.

Hi Chris,
Thank you so much for your comment, it really means a lot to have such a positive comment from such great company on here.
The Handrails and Balusters were indeed quite a labour of love, very time consuming and fiddly, but we got there in the end and I think that they finish off the model quite nicely.
I really appreciate your support by following this build thread and am very pleased that you are enjoying it, only one more thrilling installment to go until the end is nigh.

OH MY!  :o
Wait, wrong sci-fi franchise!  ;D

Hi Angelus Lupus,
Thanks for your comment, even if it was a TO you BOLDLY outlandish statement, maybe we could GO WHERE there is NO MAN land and as is everything that HAS GONE BEFORE with science fiction, just say " It's full of stars!" ;D

Holy mother of crap!

Good grief, Rob! When you post an Update, you post an Update!

What an amazing model!

Dino.

Hi Dino,
Thank you so much for your continuing support of this build thread.
I am very pleased that you liked this update, wait until you see the next one!
Which sadly will be the last in this thread for now, but more will be coming very soon!
If the holy mother is the holy mother of crap, does that mean that the holy father is the holy father of pee?
Still, I am so very pleased that you still think it is an amazing model!!

Hi phillbarron,
Thank you for your comment, I read the above and truly LOL!
Tell your wife I am truly sorry for her injury and that I hope she recovers in good stead.
Although, it was nice to hear that her jaw hit the floor in the appropriate manner after your prompting!

Hi Angelus Lupus,
Thank you for your comment, I agree about the scale of the shadows.
I did try using some different lighting and a HD camera on the last completion video I posted.
I will take on board your comments and see what else can be done to improve the illusion and make sure that people do indeed think that this is the real set.

Thank you so very much for your kind words, I am ecstatic that you think it is absolutely astounding and that you are in awe.
As to phillbarron's wife, well there are no pleasing some people, but she had just recently sustained an injury, so this may have influenced her cognitive reasoning! Maybe she thought it was made by the BBC and not just a lowly father of an avid little whovian?

But impress you did, her jaw straight to the floor. That's some impressive impressing if ever there was.

Actually, I was at a loss for words, so I reached into my brain and the first thing that came out was a quote from Dr. Venture of 'The Venture Bros.' ;D

Still think? I've always though it. Who couldn't? The work, the effort, the details! Superlatives are sorely lacking when describing this. Trying to use one with an unlimited ceiling, all I can come up with at the moment (after thinking hard on this) is Smurferific!

"This is one corner... of one country, in one continent, on one planet that's a corner of a galaxy that's a corner of a universe that is forever growing and shrinking and creating and destroying and never remaining the same for a single millisecond. And there is so much, so much to see."
One build thread left of one model Tardis Interior for one little boy, so let's see what we can do to wrap this thang up and see how much there is to see!
Here is the final part of this build thread section 11.
The basic skeleton of the Tardis was done, the majority of the fleshing out was done, quite a bit of light had been shed on the subject, the old girls personality injection done and some home decorating had been started.
So how about we start tying up this project and do the final bit of illuminating home decorating...
Section 11; Lighting + Painting Part 2.
The light areas still requiring completion;
Landing; Light Boxes, Roundel perimeter glow + Roundel central light
Dais; Basement green glow
Backdrop; Stars

25. Tardis Landing Lighting Plan.jpg

26A..jpg27..jpg
The EL discs were attached to 1 mm styrene sheet for easy fixing of the EL Discs and the Roundels to the correct position.

28..jpg
Quick test of half the required EL Discs.

29..jpg29A..jpg
EL Disc and Roundel fixing strips affixed to correct position on the Tardis Structure.

30..jpg30A..jpg
The string LEDs that will form the lighting for 12 No. Roundel Orange centres, 6 No. Basement Green glow background lights and 1 No. Warm White Main Centre light.
All of these were painted with glass paint to achieve the correct colour and light intensity.
The Main Centre light will act as the constant light source for some of the Stars to the Tardis Backers.

31..jpg31A..jpg31B..jpg
A few test shots of the installed LED string lights to illuminate the orange centres of the roundels and give the Basement area its green background glow.

The Good.

32A..jpg
The Bad.

32B..jpg
The Ugly.

With all of the remaining lighting affixed, cable management was the task of the day.
Hence The Good, The Bad and the Ugly above.

33..jpg33A..jpg
The partial roof of the Tardis was constructed from 2mm styrene sheet covered with of all things, weed control fabric. This had been painted to highlight the texture which seemed to so aptly fit the bill.

33C..jpg33D..jpg
This partial roof was then installed onto the Tardis structure to complete the Landing area from the top of the Light Boxes whilst still leaving access to the Landing itself.

33E..jpg33F..jpg33G..jpg33H..jpg33I..jpg33J..jpg
With the cable management completed, The Ugly could be addressed with the installation of the Tardis cardboard Backers.
All were dry fitted to achieve a good fit.

34..jpg34A..jpg35..jpg
These Backers then received 0.5 mm and 1 mm fibre optic strand to create the required Stars.
Some of the fibre optic strand was run to the constant Main Centre Warm White light, with the remainder being run up to the flashing Landing lighting Bright White LEDs on each panel to create the blinking Stars.
The installed fibre optic strands were left protruding in length in readiness for painting of the Tardis Backers.

36A..jpg36B..jpg36C..jpg
Pictures showing the completed fibre optic installation to create static and flashing Stars to the Tardis Backers.
That was a lot of Stars to install individually and randomly, I have blinking had enough, Ha Ha!

37..jpg37A..jpg37B..jpg37C..jpg38..jpg38A..jpg
The cardboard Backers were painted with acrylics to achieve a spacescape, the fibre optic Stars were trimmed upon completion of the painting.

A short Video showing the completed Tardis in more detail.

So with the completion of the final elements, this Tardis was finished.
To review, the original request from my son was to have;
"My very own Tardis"; Check
With "Moving parts and lights"; Check
Light weight and mobile "So I can take it to Grandma's"; Check
And of course "It has to look like the real thing"; Check
So quick turn off the oven, coz this bird's done!

So as far as stage 11 Lighting + Painting Part 2 and this build thread goes, it's a wrap!
