Me and my brother are working on this small build as he has a lot of ideas on how we are going to achieve this. We started it a while ago but I forgot to start the build dairy. So here are 2 updates in 1.

Day 1

First, I made and printed out the template. The blue bits are the frame and the sign content shall serve as the actual sign fragment.
IMGP0384.JPG

Instead of using a fresh piece of perspex to go in front of the sign, I found a scrap piece which was used to test the sticky back plastic we used for the windows on the TARDIS.

Day 2

We then needed to make the frame. So I found scrap piece of wood. How convenient. It was then cut to size with a groove for the sign to slot in.

IMGP0007.JPGIMGP0012.JPGIMGP0013.JPG

The pieces were screwed together and then we applied some intentional damage to the frame of course to make it look like it is from an exploding TARDIS. Then the frame was undercoated.

IMGP0018.JPG

While that was drying, I made the sign part look more rough by dipping it in a bin full of ash. After that, the perspex was glued to it.

IMGP0022.JPG

When the undercoat was dry, it was given a coat of blue.
IMGP0024.JPG

The day ended here as the blue paint takes longer to dry. On the next day, it shall get another coat. We might smudge some black paint and ash on it to make it look like it was burnt.

That's all for now.

This is looking great so far!! Definitely way better planned and thought out than my build a couple of years back.

I also love the weathered/burnt look you've achieved as well - it doesn't look forced at all. Can't wait to see this one progress. ;)

Thank you. It was actually your build from a couple of years ago that inspired me to recreate this prop. We hope to complete this small build in a few days. It mostly depends on how long the paint drys.

Day 3

The frames was given a second coat of blue.
IMGP0025.JPG

It took a few hours to dry but it's roughly dry now. The sign has now been glued in.
IMGP0029.JPG

What's next to do is smudge more ash or charcoal on it to make it seem the piece was blown off as right now it looks as if it was just broken off.

That's all for now.

Wow! It's nice to know one of my builds inspired someone - although I have to admit, yours is looking much better than mine did. ;) ;D

You've nailed that blue paint; it looks spot-on to the original, and it looks even better with the sign attached. I'm loving this build so far, keep up the good work! :)

Day 4

Right, I think this little project is done. I might add some black paint to it to make it look more burnt but for now I think it is fine.

I don't think I'll bother with a gallery for this prop as it's not much to look at. Can anyone recommend certain photo angles of the fragment?

That's all for now.

Beautiful build, nice work LMC! If I could request a photo angle, perhaps one with the fragment held up against your TARDIS, similar to that shot from the end of Cold Blood?

Thank you as always The14thDr. I had a feeling that someone might recommend a photo of the fragment against the phone door.

It looks like it fits. I hope this isn't saying that my TARDIS will explode in the future and take the universe with it. That would be awkward.

That's brilliant, thanks! (And you may be right - better keep an eye on her just in case; I don't want to have to reboot the universe a second time ;) ;D)

Nice job, LMC! A bit late to the party here. Don't know why they didn't go any farther with the story of the phone sign fragment though.

Thank you TigerMan. One day I might update this as I'm starting to think the left part of the frame looks too neat for something that was suppose look like it was broken off. Although, I was able to trick a few people into thinking the sign had actually broken.  :D
