They look like gaskets to me, I'll add digging mine out and pulling it apart to have a look on to my ever growing list of things I need to do...

...and if they *are* gaskets, that would explain why you don't have them--they've deteriorated and crumbled away.

Quote from: Mark on Jun 02, 2019, 11:04 amI'm not sure if you can see in the next pictures but the mesh is not flat and hard to describe.

It's because of the way it was made. This mesh is à not some wires that crosse each other nor it is à big métal sheet with Diamond shaped holes in it. The way it was done was by pressind cuts in the à metal sheet going one direction and pulling on the oposite extrémité, opening holes, and saving on metal in the end.

Ha!  Like...paper dolls or snowflakes or something.  I see it now, but I'd have never guessed that.  I figured they just took metal strips and spot-welded them together.

Not really like the paper dolls or snow flakes. I'll try and show you that with some paper later if i can get à minute at some point (or maybe try à miniature métal one, who knows, it might get use full

So here is how the mesh can be recreated

I've did it on paper, i might do it on metal later if i need to

So first here is the patern:
