Here's the revision. The overall height has not changed. The major difference is the assortment of rods including round, right triangle and equilateral triangle. These are color coded.

The differences between the original and repaired rotor are minor. It's all the same pieces except for the top tier, which was slightly larger on the original.

Most of the triangular rods have an angle facing outward. The exceptions are the triangle on the second tier (from the bottom) and the smaller triangle on the ninth tier (repaired version only).

An exploded view is really needed to see how it all fits together.

Wow! That image is HUGE! It looks like it was taken at the DWE (when the Late-Classic Series roundels were set into the walls - before they filmed 'An Adventure in Space and Time'). So this photo could have been taken by anyone visiting the DWE (and it probably has).

If you think it safe, I'll crop out all but the rotor and post that portion. After all, when you do post things like this on the net, where everyone can see them, it sort of makes them "public domain", and in this case the photo is being used for research purposes, not profit.

I'll include a cropped (and enhanced) shot alongside the exploded diagram once I draw it.

Here's a view of the rod stack for one point. I bet the designer was hoping for prismatic effects, but we all know how it looked on video - nothing but white light.

EXCELLENT diagram Lespaceplie!

I'm going to be working on a scale model shortly (getting a console cast for Christmas), and this stuff is gold!  Thanks for all your work.

Got any numbers for this plan buddy?

A template is really more valuable than dims on this. Expect that with the new PDF for this console soon.

I look forward to trying it out in 3D. Might even try for the prismatic effect you were talking about :)

All I'm after really is the two inner circle dimensions (the inner hole and the base point of the spikes) and the outer diameter for the spikes, one for each layer.

I shall await your PDF :)

Another detail about this rotor concerns the diameter of the cylinder. I can't say for sure, but I believe it's a little slimmer than its predecessors. The base that supports the tiers seems to fit near flush to the inside. I think the outside diameter of the cylinder is 56cm with a 5mm thick shell resulting in 55cm inside diameter. It's certainly more robust than the earlier versions.

Well, there was another thread about this rotor complete with decent photos that somehow I didn't notice. That thread solves one major mystery/error on my part (and lacks a couple of things I got right), but now I have the info to perfect the plans.

For some reason, lespaceplie, that one phrase makes you sound like a megalomaniac on a mission! ;) ;D

I can't wait to see your results. (And do you have the link to that other thread? It would be nice to post in this one so the two threads are linked together, especially since you've got some info from that other thread, and that other thread can benefit from your info that it doesn't have.)

Muhuhuhaha!

Perhaps a mod could collapse this thread and append to earlier one?

On the plus side, I believe I have the (as yet unmentioned) dims of the tiers, assortment of rod shapes and cylinder closer to correct, but I misinterpreted the rods that lie outside the tiers themselves. There are a couple of lower triangle rods that I need to add, which are verified by the photos.

The state of things where the other thread left off had much more info about the tube lights, of course. One thing that is a big help is to let go of Imperial measurements on this one. Everything is to convenient metric dims. In fact, I'm pretty sure the cylinder is smaller than previous rotor. I believe it's 55cm ID / 56cm OD with a height of 80cm (plus the thickness of the cap and not counting the wood base that sticks down lower than the acrylic). The inner black plinth is 12 - 12.5 cm tall plus a few mm for the thickness of the mirror. With all tier layers made from 3mm sheet and 6cm for all short rods, it looks right - doesn't mean it is. I won't be able to work up anything until Saturday.

Given the known dimensions of the tube lights and some photogrammetry, this simply has to be closer than ever. I'm sticking to my guns on the dims of my last post, but the previous diagrams will need to be mostly ignored now. Of course, that would be the earlier config above and the late below. More to come...

Do we know the diameter of the central hole of the Stars? Also What is the height of each tier?

why doesn't the Guide mention them? - Oh, it's not very accurate.
Oh? - I'm researching the new edition.
