Has anyone got any further advice for lenses? I've looked at the Perko site, and whilst they do have what I want they want a lot of money for it. I'm not cheap, but I was hoping to keep the cost of my build below $1000 (if possible) and spending nearly a 1/6 of it on a lamp seems excessive to me!

Thanks,

Dave

Be aware that the New Haven Half Wall Lantern is just that, its half a light so the Fresnel is only 180 degrees and not 360 degrees. Its also quite a bit larger than the one used on the Tardis and it's made from plastic.

This one is the right size, 360 degrees and glass. You can also remove the Fresnel from the housing so your just left with the lens.

You can buy it here and its only £29.95 + VAT + Delivery:

Asked you in PM, but do you think this one is right or this one?

Either way, would anyone be willing to nab one for a Canadian?

Does anyone know if this is available in the states?  Or is there an online retailer that will ship to the US?

Looks like I did not read clearly, I thought his one WASN'T the 180 degree one...but looking at the pictures it seems to be the same.

However, on the website it says:

60W ES Lampholder
• Lamp not included
• Aluminium construction
• Glass diffuser
• Weatherproof to IP44
• Colour: Rustic
• Height: 294mm
• Width: 203mm
• Projection: 120mm

Glass and aluminum...like yours! :)

Only reason I ask is that this one is a hanging lantern, so would not have a notch out of the back.

QVS does NOT ship overseas. :( Google search revealed ZERO vendors in the USA.   :( :(
But I am still looking.

I have the hanging version, i did go a bit mad when I ordered these, but as I said above it is only half a lantern, bigger with a plastic lens.

I'm going to use it to replace my front porch light. May as well get my use out of it. :)

Could you post a photo of the hanging version? One showing the wires and how it hangs?

Other than the size I would have suggested it might be cool for anyone building half a TARDIS over a doorway or something similar...

OK here is a picture of both the Hanging half wall lantern (left) and the normal wall lantern (right). I have been modding my wall lantern so it does look a little different but this gives you good size comparison. Also on the wall lantern there are 6 spokes, on the hanging version there are 5. I have removed a couple of spokes from the one on the right.

I do like the idea that anyone building a tardis over a door, this would work really well.

Ok thanks.  Do you know who the manufacturer is?  Like what company produces it?  Maybe they might ship to the US?

The manufacturer is MASSIVE LIGHTING a Belgium company.  ;D 5 minutes to Beligum ;D
They have a .pdf catalog. the lamp is on page 184 under Outdoor Lighting
Now I wait to see if they reply to my email.

Fresnel lanterns seem to command silly prices these days.  It's as if everyone in the world is building a Tardis.

Though I keep my eye out for them on E-Bay because sometimes old lanterns come close at a reasonable price:
