In the cities in the streets there's a tension you can feel,
The breaking strain is fast approaching, guns and riots.
Politicians gamble and lie to save their skins,
And the press get fed the scapegoats,

Interesting comparison - either you grow taller as your hair grows, or the Earls Court box is indeed shorter than the old boxes.

Well I'm 6' exactly (and not exactly standing to attention). And, now that you mention it, I hadn't spotted that before...

The Buchannan box does seem to have quite a thick base though...

there's a reason for the height differential - the Earl' Court box base is mostly underground and the Buchanan St one is massive!! It's almost cartoon sized!

Eh? How does that work? is there a ladder inside it or something? Makes me think of some secret entrance to a superhero's lair or something! lol :)

Hello everyone,

This box was pained black and gold to promote Glasgow's launch of Buchanan Street as the Style Mile. We have a good relationship with Glasgow City Council and agreed to allow them to paint it this colour for two months. I did not see the box in this colour as I was in the USA for a couple of months. The feedback I did get though was the box was poorly painted and the blue colour that has been applied now is not very good either. I will take a run up to Glasgow next month and have a look. regards, Ward

Teletran

it's blue again but they seem to have painted over the restoration plaques, odd that, pictures to follow.

Saw the box today as I was over for a Movie casting call. It's had another repaint! I'll post pics soon...

I was in Glasgow at the weekend and I'm sad to report that the old girl is deteriorating again (was it a coffee shop latterly?) and the top signs have been ripped out, leaving her open to the elements:

I SEE THIS BOX EVERYTIME IM IN GLASGOW AND IT ALWAYS LOOKS IN A STATE RIPPED OF SIGNS PEELING PAINT CRACKED CONCRETE . BUT JUST A FEW WEEKS AGO IT HAD BEEN REPAIRED AND REPAINTED LOOKS LIKE NEW WHAT WILL IT BE USED FOR NEXT IWONDER?
But it was just a police box !

Fedora, could you please post a few photos of the repaired box? Such a beautiful box in this sad state: many of us would be overjoyed to see her back in her prime again.

July 2014 - being used during the day as a source of power for on-street catering operation! Shame the bulb is currently hanging out the top of the lamp as well...
