I began the roof yesterday. Now it's half term, so a week to rest, and get the top light together.

Today I first placed a tube in the centre of the roof to run the electrics down.

I then attached the panels, sanded them down then filled the seams. Then I got 3 people to help me put the roof on, he he  ;D

I've made all the sign boxes now, attached one, and made all the windows/signs on 2D design to cut on the plotter & laser cutters.

I'm genuinely impressed Luke, well done you!   I'm also horribly jealous of he tools you have access to and remorseful that when I was at school the interesting thing I made in woodwork was ... was... what the heck did I make?  Probably a coathanger or something equally rubbish.

Yesterday I began the day by finishing sanding the outside of the left door. Then the fun began!

I stained it with the first coat of Iris! (photos do not show the colour correctly at all, or the wood gain)

I then moved on to using the laser cutter and plotter cutter. All together I:

...cut the black vinyl letters & white backing for the pull to open sign
10thmarch5.jpg

...cut the black vinyl for the St Johns Ambulance
10thmarch6.jpg

...cut the first window from plywood...

...as well as two pieces of Polycarbonate.

Here are some pictures of the parts at the end of yesterday. (the sign and window are only propped up)

Untill next week!!

BLOODY HELL!  Now that is how you cut windows. I wish I had that handy tool!

Looking great!

Gah! I know what you mean about Iris not looking right on camera. Did you see my recent post with my box half-assembled? Nothing like what it looks like in real life, quite wierd actually... Your's looks closer to actual colour, I think though - I reckon if you take the photo in daylight it looks much more accurate, rather than relying on a flash.

Your build is really going fantastically. One of the best I've ever seen! A Smith box on a par with PhillipW's - and your still in school (jeez... both the boxes make me exceedingly jelous lol - mine just isn't as good as that - no other way of putting it)!
Interesting way of doing the windows - you have no idea of the hassle it has saved you!
Isn't it how ironic that we have to think of solutions out of the box, in order to build our boxes a lot of the time?

omg that is really looking good Luke cant Waite for the finishing one  ;D
