Just looking through the photo gallery on the Twin Dilemma DVD. I saw this image of the Tardis console.

Under it appears to be the Tardis Tool Kit Prop and .... something else ....
It appears to be a Sphere attached to the console by a length of metal.

I don't think it is part of the design, but it may have been the mechanism that enabled an effect of some kind.

It wouldn't make any kind of sense to place microphones under the console so I don't think it is part of the studio audio equipment. ... does anybody have any idea what this is?

I've never noticed that before, but then it's been years since I've seen that story. I don't recognize what it could be. I even tried lightening the photo a bit to get more detail out of it, but the thing is too much in shadow and just gets a lighter shade of solid grey. I'll have to watch that one again now to see if the story shows what it is. Strange.

Looks like headphones to me... There was also two pairs of headphones hung over the railings in the console room in Masque of Mandragora.

They are a set of headphones.
I cannot remember the episode exactly, It was a lot of years ago for me, but I do remember one Doctor actually using them.
The hung there unused for a number of seasons.
Pertwee/Baker springs to mind for the era in which they were "hanging around"

I remember the headphones/hair permer that that Doctor (Pertwee) used on Professor Clegg. They were a different design, but the only ones that spring immediately to my mind anyway

part of me still thinks this looks like an armature of some kind. Almost like the circular pivot point of a metal arm like a boom microphone stand. ... I had a set of headphones around this time and I remember the cord being much thicker.
