Greetings one and all!
I guess I am introducing myself here at the same time as posting details about my little build.

I am Simon Roberts, I am a British expat living in Michigan, and a BIG Doctor Who fan.
I have had ideas of building a full size replica Police Box for quite a long time...also a Dalek!
However right now I am residing in an apartment without the outdoor space or even a garage to build these aforementioned projects.
I took the decision a couple of weeks ago to build a model of the Tardis, with the intention of it being a bedside night light upon it's completion.
I have never before built a model of anything from scratch and wasn't entirely convinced that I could do a decent job.
My chosen material was balsa and I took a few pics of the Tardis to work out some dimensions and measurements. My other materials were some clear plastic, some opaque paper, steel wire and gold coloured wire. My tools were a craft knife, sandpaper, wire cutters and pva glue.

I have been pleasantly surprised with the results and am keen to get peoples opinions.  I have yet to design an LED circuit and fit it inside the Tardis, and will take care of that in the oncoming weeks I guess.

So below I hope to have successfully posted a mass of photo's I took during the building of the model, I apologize for the quality of the images as I am not much of a photographer, however I hope they convey the model well.
If the posting is a success then just click on the thumbnails.

Regards,

Simon Roberts

Hi Vermillion...
...and yes we would love to see your model Dalek progress.
There's "Other Props" down at the foot of the home page where I'm running a full size classic Dalek build diary, to accompany my Tardis

Welcome aboard!

I think that's a first for TR2, that in their first post to us someone's already built the model, documented it in pictures and shared them - and the model itself is wonderful, I hope you're very impressed!

Therefore, another first.  With your first post, you just got the Model ReBuilder title for July 08, and a karma boost!  Well done!!

I just have to say a huge thank you for your responses guys! I am certainly incredibly surprised and also honoured to receive the model builder award...infact when I read the post from Dale I cracked up because I wasn't even aware there was any kind of rewards system in place...so again, Thank you all!

Well...right at this moment I have started work building a model Dalek. Again I am building from balsa and roughly the same scale as the Tardis model. I have to say that I am probably going to regret trying to build this Dalek from balsa...but its certainly a challenge. As it stands I have built the skirt section and am working on the shoulders (which is incredibly time consuming considering the method I have chosen to construct it) But I do understand that this is a Tardis builders forum and wont post any pictures here unless I get requests or permission from the admin staff.

After completing or smashing this dalek in frustration I think I may construct more classic tardis designs in balsa considering how well my very first attempt has worked out.

Also I shall light the model as per my original idea, and will post images of the night light in operation as well as my progress images.
I really cannot wait to have the space available to build a full size police box, after the model I feel rather confident that I will be somewhat successful with a full scale build.

So please let me know if my current Dalek model is welcome here or if anyone is indeed interested.

Many thanks and kind regards,

Si
