The Tom Yardley Jones TARDIS
Era:End of classic series (1989)

st--7d17ac.png

Summary:
In 1986 a duplicate TYJ prop was cast and both were used right up until the original programme's end in 1989. Tom Yardley-Jones created the design of this prop, his intension was to go back to the roots of the original Police Box look. Unlike the previous models, this TARDIS was cast in fibre glass and not a timber construction.

Please feel free to add photo references for this prop here, making sure that your photo is of the prop used during the correct era above.

Were there ever completely confirmed measurements for this version?
I've recently acquired the early draft TYJ plans but they're missing important dims.

Cheers,

Anson

Umm, did you mean to reply to yourself ? It was a pretty amazing question though ;) :P  ;D

I've been to see the MkII prop at the BBC (me and a million others - it was parked outside the audience entrance, not exactly Fort Knox..) but anyone with ideas of whipping out a tape measure is immediately tazered by the security staff, bundled into the back of a BBC outside broadcast van and used as mute extras in Eastenders.

Okay, that's maybe a little OTT, but they do have people to guard against that kind of thing. So, if it's 'confirmed' measurements you're after I think you'll find that difficult - there may be people who have snippets of knowledge from good sources here and there, or used photo's etc to work out proportional measurements, but they're not likely to be confirmed. My build, like many people who base theirs on the TYJ boxes, is based on little more than informed guesswork and tweaking plans/3d models to see if it looks 'right'.

Also, depending on which plans you're talking about - if they're BBC plans from the production itself they're not likely to reflect what was actually built in any case, so I'd be sceptical about taking measurements from there.

Good luck getting your plans together  :)

cheers
Chris

EDIT: these photos are in another thread, but I thought they could do with being in here:

There honestly is no need for a post like this.  If no-one has an answer for you, then no-one has an answer.

The plans you recently bought were used as the basis for the plans in the Technical Manual, you may want to check that book out as I have a feeling that may have had extra dimensions noted on it, otherwise, what Demat has said is the only alternative.

Thanks Dematerialiser,

All I needed to know.

The Trial of a Time Lord: The Mysterious Planet (technically recorded during the studios for Mindwarp when they ran out of time during the Mysterious Planet studio session).

The Mark I appeared on location in a deleted scene.

For some unknown reason, the lamp has been covered by a video effect (you can just glimpse it as the TARDIS vanishes). Mark I was used on location for the beach scenes.
