why doesn't the Guide mention them? - Oh, it's not very accurate.
Oh? - I'm researching the new edition.

Hi Nate - this is the TY-J Mark I (refurbished) box and not the Mark II!

(The easiest way to tell is to look for the additional brackets at the top and bottom on the Tardis' sides. If these square brackets are present, then it is the Mark I.)

Additional repairs must have been made since the http://tardisbuilders.com/index.php?topic=9635 thread.  ::)

I'm guessing this is the Mk 1 box.

Yes - this is the earlier box. You can see both the screw heads securing the front top sign and the 'additional brackets' at the top and bottom of the side panel (both circled in yellow).

It also looks like the right-hand door is one of the wooden ones made for the prop in Delta and the Bannermen and re-utilised for the arrow hitting the Tardis in Silver Nemesis - note what appears to be an open joint in the woodwork at the top of the window and also what appears to be a distinct warping of the door panel below the top hinge (circled in red):

The learning process is always the steepest curve.

The square (strengthening) brackets are first seen in Delta and the Bannermen (1987) as is at least one of the wooden doors. The brackets were probably added when the box was repaired at the start of the Trial of a Time Lord season and the screws holding the front top sign in place also first appear in Bannermen but only in the Ken Dodd 'spaceport' scenes, they don't appear to be present in the Shangri-La holiday camp footage or photos.

The filming of the holiday camp scenes was completed on July 4th 1987 whilst the spaceport scenes were recorded on July 7th. So, the addition of the top sign screws was presumably as the result of a hurried repair carried out either on the 5th, 6th or early on the 7th of July 1987.  :)

It looks like when they were filming the Shangri-La scenes, they'd applied some blue tape over the screw heads:

In the shade, and on the film stock, the screw covers blended in reasonably well for the most part.
