You would have thought they would have had the decency not to do a close up of the old girl in this state!

You can even make out the extra step on the bottom of the window, just like the Barnet Police Box.

Odd that this has bolts on the pillars very similar to the later box (see Time Flight TARDIS thread).

Now where did all that marine ply go.............

Looks to be the same kind of flat roof they used since (at least) The power of the daleks...

I posted a link to it in this thread...

In the cities in the streets there's a tension you can feel,
The breaking strain is fast approaching, guns and riots.
Politicians gamble and lie to save their skins,
And the press get fed the scapegoats,
Public Enema Number One.

It's just the angle of the picture taken - it's the original roof from '63.  There are some images from the stories before and after this that show the box from above and you can still see the pitch.

The Savages, The Highlanders and The Abominable Snowmen (I think that's what it's called) are the immediate stories that spring to mind which all show the roof pitch from above.  There's also episode one of The Seeds of Death that really shows off how shallow the roof is - I did a screen cap of this a couple of years ago, it may even be on here somewhere.

EDIT:  and there the screen cap is, at the top of this page.  It does look a bit like my one as I had to clean it up a little, but then this could be someone else's.

Its just occurred to me... Could the POTD pic be a model shot? The dalek looks so crumpled and melted, could it be some sort of small mockup?

I'm pretty sure its the full size prop. To my knowledge, the door restraints visible in the picture were never included in any of the Tardis models used.

damn you have good eyes! I didn't spot that until I read your post! :)

I wonder how they did that to the dalek?

Actually, I'm starting to think that there is more detail BEFORE the roof sections start... inbetween the pillars, above the signs. What do you guys think?

There's nothing in between the pillars above the lintel in terms of extra detailing, just the first stage of the roof (wall continuation) - which is very plain.  When the refit happened, it later gained some angle brackets on the left and right sides to hold the roof on and they're still there to this day.

By the way, the second image you posted is one of the models.

Haha, must just be my eyes!  :) Was that the refit that happened in the middle of "The War machines"?

What do you mean "Still"? I thought it fell apart during the Tom Baker years?

It is? Its a very good one then, one of the better ones I guess. Is it the one used in "The Abominable Snowmen" and the Tom Baker Titles?

Found this picture from 'Seeds Of Doom', the last time the original prop was used. Here we are looking at the right side wall and rear of the prop. You can clearly see what looks like hinges holding the roof on. Could this botched attachment explain why the roof could have fallen in on Liz Sladen? There must have been quite a gap on the left side as the roof is held flush with the right side wall.
