Forgive me if it's already been discussed, but has anyone found a good commercial match for the new TARDIS blue?

I am building a mini version (approx 18" tall). I'm getting perilously close to the painting stage and I can't mix color to save my life.

I will post progress pics soon!

Nesshane, my sign is laser cut vinyl lettering onto silver chrome perspex. About £45 form Sign A Rama in Glasgow.
I used Bill Rudloff's PDF (available on this site) for the graphics. Thanks again Bill!!

I'm pretty much at the same point on a build about the same size, and judging from your spelling I'm in the same country.

I'm going for (from Home Depot) "It's Trivial" as the base colour, with a black ink wash and then (maybe, still not 100% on this) a "Dream Spiral" dry brush.
With a few coats of Killz primer underneath.

The end result of this (on a 1"x1"x130mm block) is
485045694_2c3484b29d.jpg

Hmm, on my PC that looks brighter than it actually is!

One thing I have noticed is that for some reason nearly all the promo TARDIS stuff (example: I got the cardboard TARDIS, cyber head, dalek, K9 kit for Christmas) make it purple.
And the lighting on the TV show is such that it appears very different from how it appears on Dr Who Confirdential, in other words I suspect that painting a model in the real colour wouldn't actually work very well.

I think the dry brush helps a lot on the small bit of wood, I'm just not sure how to dry brush something half a metre tall!
I'm also not entirely happy with my ink washing skills, it works well enough for the shadow areas but doesn't clear enough on the flat areas.

Ask Chris Rowand what he used for his NST build.  Check his thread out.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys.

I think I found a good color. It is FolkArt brand acrylic paint #609 Thunder Blue. Right out of the bottle it has that rich, dark color and best of all, it's only 75¢ per 2 oz bottle! That may be pricey for a full sizer but great for my mini!

BTW, has anyone noticed that the spell check doesn't recognize "TARDIS"? :D

Dulux wildwater blue, then black emulsion wash, a couple of coats if needed. Avoid flash photographs for your research. They overexpose and make things much lighter than they really are.

Wildwater blue changes colour and tone over the whole day.
At night time it changes into a nice dark sinister blue and during the day it appears reasonably light. Amazing thing colour..

Chris

What is your sign made out of??
I'm looking at laser cut vinyl lettering onto colorbond steel,
your's looks like aluminium with black letters.

The paint I'm looking at is Dulux Deep Ocean (Australian) for anyone
in countries other than the UK the colour names and mixes change from country to country, dulux here couldn't even find Wildwater Blue in the data base/mixing guide.
So if anyone knows the code breakdown (normally on top of the tin) this would help everyone enormously.

Cheers - nesshane

My build will be starting shortly, getting material costs and fine details sorted first....
