Fresnel is pronounced with a silent S, or I suppose it would be more accurate to say it is not pronounced with an S at all. I'm slightly dyslexic so I like to know these things it's also why my posts tend to be somewhat formally phrased because if I wasn't careful I'd end up typing gibberish most of the time.
Anyone got anything else?

Yep, you're right about fresnel being pronounced as "Fre'nel" - it being named after the Frenchman, Augustin Jean Fresnel, who created this type of lens technology.  The fresnel being the triangular (in profile) sections that go around any lens which helps to spread the light flow.  So really a Fresnel Lens can be applied to a whole host of lens types and not just those on top of certain models of Police Box... my, my - I was listening and taking stuff in at university!

One name that took a while for me to find the correct pronouciation for was "Brachacki" - I've heard so many people pronounce it with a "Ch" sound, but apparently that's not right and it's pronounced "Bra-kah-key."

Now, "Raxicoricofalipatorious"... I can't even spell that one!
