It looks to me almost like a cross between the glasgo and met styles, I especialy like the extra step on the bottem of the plinth. Also note the colour of the signs.

Quote from: rassilonsrod board=policebox thread=1205363001 post=1205382294Real Police Boxes always look rather too large to me... But maybe I'm just weird like that.

I mean look at her, wearing heals. Is she REALLY that short? :D

It is a rather splendid example though :)

I think she is really just that short.  ;D

I agree with you that the actual Police Boxes look larger than the TARDIS exterior, but personally I like them that way.  ;D

This might even have been a special mock-up version for the exhibition, possibly made of wood rather than concrete. Also the colour looks to be very light?

LOVE IT!!!  ;D   I love the top signs and the font used.  Looks a bit different but in a good way.   I also like the placement of the lock.  I probably wouldn't do it on my own personal build but I still like it.   Great image sir!!!!

notice the small slope on top of the sign boxes. . .  good idea for outdoor builds.  I may make my base look like that one.  I like it very much.

Some pics of possibly an even earlier Police Box in situ. The box does appear to be made of wood as opposed to the later concrete versions. Also, note the different wording on the information panel, and the 'stencil' type for 'POLICE' on the sign lintels. The telephone is also an earlier model to the one at the 1936 Olympia show.

Now that is just beautiful. If only they could bring them back that would be such a treat for all of us especially me.

I don't know whether you guys noticed, but the windows are leaded... which is kinda cool.
My pilot's license? That's out back in the Cessna. Or perhaps you're referring to my license to kill. Revoked. Trouble at the Kazakhstan border.

I could give you the details but then I'd have to kill you, which I can't do because my license to kill has been revoked.

Has anybody else had terrible trouble trying to source this type of pebbled glass?

Yes - but I found a large pane of it by calling several glazing companies - they had recently replaced the pebbled glass in a door for new toughened glass; as a result the pebbled glass is genuinely old (and a bit brittle to cut, but they managed it for me) and it's not the modern equivalent which looks 'hammered' instead of pebbled. Good luck!

when people say hammered ... does it a flat surface on both sides? the glass i've got is "bubbly" on one side the glass company i got it from referred to it as pebble glass but i'm not sure what hammered glass looks like.

i love the box in this thread

Hi atomic

As far as I know, it's only textured on one side; and as for what hammered looks like: when I was looking for decent looking 'pebbled' glass the closest modern equivalent I could find was a very small-scale texture, all the glaziers I spoke to told me that the closest modern equivalent was 'hammered' glass; but, hammered texture is just how it sounds - concave indentations in the glass instead of raised 'pebbles', which is why I decided to look for some authentic old glass - turns out it was easy to get and a lot cheaper as it was reclaimed :)

cheers
Chris

I found a modern equivalent in my local door store, it comes in clear and amber/yellow (which I chose). It's not a perfect match, but as close as anything I was able to find, and at first glance looks the same. I can dig out the glass code if anyone's intrested.

Here's another old Police Box for your delectation.
London 1939. An air raid siren post is being sited by the box...
