why doesn't the Guide mention them? - Oh, it's not very accurate.
Oh? - I'm researching the new edition.

Looks like they may have made the discs for the fluid link at the same time (and in the same way) as the eye-stalk discs on the Daleks.

Thanks for the grabs, Nate! We haven't really had much reference for this little prop before. Too bad they never really "zoomed in" on it when it was on that Dalek console; that would have given us some really nice detail of it. I know a few people have made replicas of this prop, and have put a little antenna/aerial on one end, but in the close-ups of Hartnell holding it up to look at it, I can't notice any such antenna. (Maybe it's just my stanky old wizzard eyes again.)

And this is another instance where I wish we had some access to the concept art of the time. It would be interesting to see what the notes on the drawings might have said, or what details they wanted to include, and which ones made it through to the final prop.

The yellow discs seem an odd choice, considering it looks like we have proof of the blue.
(Also, not entirely convinced that Barbara's shirt should be that vivid, even if it does turn out that it was really pink.)

Colour choices on are show designed to be taped in Black & White are not straightforward.  Often the production teams would pick colours that would work well in black & white rather than the colour they would choose if it were to be filmed in colour.  Studio conditions were extremely harsh, lights were hot and very bright to get an image to be picked up.

We have reasons to believe the TARDIS console was only a pastel green because they were trying to avoid the TARDIS set 'whiting out' under the studio lighting -- if it were going to be filmed in colour it would have been white or a very light grey.

So what should be done on colouring in what was never intended to be coloured?  I understand arguments for both sides. Should the Dalek hemisphere's really be blue?  Should the TARDIS floor really be blue?  The list goes on and on.  In the end it is an artistic production, and someone in the production team taking artistic choices is fair - fans will judge whatever happens...
