Hi there.

I am Australian and I am heading to London. I was wondering if there is a definitive location list of police boxes and police posts??

I'll be in Belfast and shortly thereafter England from next Tuesday (November 25), for a few weeks. I'll definately be in Plymouth but also London at some point, I'll be visiting the earls Court Box just as I did in 96 (although I heard somewhere it's been demolished? Is this true?), and I'd love to locate any others within range. Does anyone know of any other existing police boxes I could stand next to and grin awkwardly while an angry stranger takes my photo? Thanks guys.   :)

Thankyou Dave, I appreciate that! When I log onto TR2, I always feel like I'm dropping in on a share house where all my mates live!

Hi everyone

Newbie here, so sorry if this has been posted previously although I've trawled many sites over the years and never seen a similar question.

I was just wondering how many original police boxes still exist in some form or another. I'm aware of the Earls Court newbie, the Hendon one and the one at the other museum which name escapes me. I'm also aware of the Newport box and the many variations such as Trafalgar Square and the other shed designs that crop up. I'm also aware of the 5 or so in Glasgow and the hundred or so in Edinburgh. But how many other originals are out there, although I suspect I know the answer.

My other question, the one that I've never seen an answer to, is this - are there any original boxes in private ownership? If the odd box such as Barnett escaped demolition when it was scheduled, is it possible that others may have escaped?

As far as I know, there is only the 'new' police box which is in the Earls Court area of London.

In case you don't know, this box was built in the 90's, made of wood and although it is almost identical to the original boxes, has a few minor differences.

There is a police post in London, can't remember where though.

There are several police posts in London, or at least there were last time I looked for 'em - from memory, there's one in Grosvenor Square and one in Piccadilly Circus and a few in the City. Give me a few days and I should be able to dig out the book that has the list of 'em. (Digging is necessary with my books as they're not on shelves, they're in archaeological layers; so perhaps someone will be able to beat me to it with the Definitive Police Post List?)

I should mention that there's also a sort of police box in Trafalgar Square, but it's cunningly disguised itself as part of the stonework.

If you're willing to travel out of London, there's the Crich Tram museum, and also Avoncroft -
http://tardisboard.proboards43.com/index.cgi?board=policebox&action=display&thread=528

http://www.avoncroft.org.uk

which has a police box and several posts, and also some telephone boxes.
I'll be going there next time I'm in the UK, I hope.
I thought I'd seen something about some old exchange equipment, but I can't find it now.

Thank you very much. Yes the Crich one and Avoncroft are on my list (just got to figure out how to get there without a car) and of course the Earls court one. As for the Posts I did not realise they were still on the streets of London. The Glasgow ones look interesting also.

How is the Crich project going?

A successful dig. Here's a list of London police posts.

In the City:
Queen Victoria Street. Guildhall Yard. Houndsditch/Aldgate. Adams Court in Old Broad Street. Walbrook. Victoria Embankment.
Elsewhere: Piccadilly Circus and Grosvenor Square, as I mentioned.

No guarantee that they're all still there, but this is is a list of 'listed kiosks' i.e. preserved ones so they jolly well _should_ all still be there.

Don't worry - the Earl's Court Police Box is still standing.

If you got time, why don't you visit tardis owners from this site, a sort of Tardis road trip?

A TARDIS road trip, now there's an idea!  I'll be at Earls Court doing some odds and ends on the 25th as I have a few things to attend to over there.

Good luck on your visit, I'm sure you'll have fun.
