Hi

Has anyone been inside the new series tardis and taken measurements (accurate) - any idea just how big it is inside?

I know alot of people who intend to build the Eccleston TARDIS say quite early on how HUGE it is... but how big is it INSIDE?

I quite like the idea of it being a little 'room' or office....

You could make your windows out of screening instead of glass.

There's not that much space in there, approximately 130cm or 4'4" if memory serves me well - been a few months since I was in it, though I did walk past one of them on Monday whilst at work.  Still, it has a bit more room than in the classic versions.

It certainly doesnt feel huge when your in there, I would guess at being under 4'4" but purple has a better eye for things than me, so I reckon he's right on that. Definately NOT huge tho.

Really?! That small!?

I thought this thing was supposed to be HUGE! LOL

We are talking about the Eccleston / Tennant TARDIS and not the tiny thing the 5th Doctor had right?

Listen to Purple and to others who have built their own New Series TARDIS.  With the base being about 5 ft sq, you would have less than 4.5 square ft of space after factoring in the thickness of the walls and cornerposts and their distance away from the edge of the base.

You could still get away with a very small office if you wanted though, and if you made the left door always closed :)

Hmmm, that's exactly what I was thinking.

I have a big wetroom and was marking out 4'4'' last night and standing in it, putting my monitors etc... all around trying to get a feel.

I think the real problem isn't the computing equipment or desk/shelf, but the comfy chair I use (RH Logic 400 24hr)

I don't know how I'd get into the TARDIS when that chair was in - unless the doors opened outwards... YUCK!!! :(

I thought you were talking about the console room. That would make one hell of an office.

Why not go the way of Crispin and make your box the foyer to your office?  That would be sweet!

Sweet...

I can tell you I'm now already jealous of 'Crispin' and  I don't even know who he(?) is!

That would be great, but unfortunately, it's only my downstairs floor with 10 1/2 ft ceilings... so it has to sit at the back of the lounge... So I though I'd move my 'Computer Room' or at least all the 'good' bits, down into the TARDIS and save having to use the stairs all the time!

Plus it would be soooo coool.

However, Ive thought of a possible problem.

3 Computers, 4 x 24" Screens... and me.

What am I going to do about getting 'fresh' air?!

I've already considered a ceiling fan on the... guess what... ceiling. But whilst it wouldn't be airtight, it might get a bit heavy with CO2...

:/

Don't really want gaping holes in it. :(  Hmm...

Do you need to be sitting INSIDE the TARDIS?

Have a gander at this... maybe it would get some more creative juices flowing :)

That would be me, and yes, I'm a him!  :D. My console room has a thread here and a web page here though I'm currently in the process of rematerializing it in a new location, so it doesn't look like that at the moment.

A police box was originally a small office for a police officer, though of course in the 1930's they didn't have computers and ergonomics was not so well known, so the poor officer only had a stool to sit on.
Police boxes did have opening windows, however, and a door that opened outward. For wintery days, they had a small electric wall-mounted heater. Take a look at the police box section of this forum for more on that.

You can make your windows open like on real Police Boxes and the Original TARDIS prop.
