I received my candle lantern today and it's perfect!  I had a question though regarding how to cut out the top vent and how to wire it up along with cutting the hole in the bottom for the light to come through.  Anyone who has done this, if you can chime in I would appreciate it.  Can't wait to get started on this!

After reading all the info about the lamp on the other Builders forum, I was ready for a battle with mine - but on closer inspection it was easy-peasy.  :D

It ended up that the middle section at the top was only loosely welded in, so I could just wiggle it to get it loose and off, then I epoxied the top section back on.  Double check how the top is connected before you grab a dremel!  :)

I know some of them are one piece, but mine wasn't.
My pilot's license? That's out back in the Cessna. Or perhaps you're referring to my license to kill. Revoked. Trouble at the Kazakhstan border.

I could give you the details but then I'd have to kill you, which I can't do because my license to kill has been revoked.

I used my Dremel to cut a rectangle in the bottom of the lamp... after removing the glass, of coarse.

Haven't done anything with the top yet.

So here's a stupid question:  I need to purchase a Dremel, which one do you suggest and what bits do I need?

My Dremel is a model 300.  It came with a set of tools, but I also purchased the EZLock cutting kit.

For the top of the lamp, I carefully cut off the vent ring with the Dremel.  Still working out how to attach the top piece to the lantern.

I fixed my top this way.  After I cut off the topper piece I cut a circular piece of plastic just larger than the hole.  I then epoxied it in place and let it set for a few days.  After that I used Bondo on the top to make it smooth.  After it dried I drilled a hole in the top for the little knob piece.  I'll try to get some pictures up if it would help.
