Plywood, hardboard... I think any modern builds that are happening wouldn't be far off.

But I would go with getting the paint surface right, I don't think any grain would show through, let alone leave a noticable bump on what ever they used. :)

Thanks Marc. Did you use bump mapping on your 3D build?.

I experimented with it, but nothing came of that.

I just ended up trying to get the reflectivity/specularity looking
right for matt emulsion paint. I used the "add fibers" filter in
photoshop as part of the texture, but left it really subtle.

Aw, bless you Marc! I will experiment with that. I'm really pushing to finish the Console body this weekend so I can start work on the rotor.

I decided that the plinth sections were too big, so I've narrowed them and started work on the panel. Oh, and I've added silver to the bottom too :D

Thats starting to look really good :)

Time to do something to the column, maybe? I'd do something about the glass texture to remove the dark shadowing perhaps. Make it refract slightly.

But the body/layout is pretty damn good :)

Thanks.. I'm assuming the original would have been perspex/plastic as glass would have been too heavy. I'll have to experiment with some textures.

Yeah - it was all acrylic innards, which if I remember correctly has a slightly higher refractive index than glass - about 1.4.

The outer surface - I'm currently wondering if it was an acrylic top, with a surround of clear styrene. Really not sure about the styrene. Acrylic may well have been the material of choice as it was Shawcraft's speciality. I don't even know if transparent styrene was available in the 60s.

It's just that I've seen clear styrene in places like B&Q, and it seems much more flexible, and probably cheaper than the same type of thing in acrylic.

It's been awhile since I posted anything, but I have been rather busy of late. Haven't forgotten about my console though... working on other aspects of the project :D

Ahh, the first day of some blessed and super pertly wonderful time off. Today I has been mostly doing work on the central column. Did anyone ever actually give it the all clear to call it the Time Rotor?

Can anyone help.. I'm about to go a bit mad! I'm trying to create the slats on the inner rigging of the central column.. and it' proving to be a pain. I found the measurements 3.75x3.5 on Celation's thread and this is what I have been going with.. But no matter what angle I try to set them at on the rods, they don't line up. Please see below. What am I doing wrong?

Are there any revised measurments? I'm working on the gap between the poles being 2".

Probably the black paddles go through the middle of the rods, not stuck on the side of them.

It's looking nice, BTW!

Cheers Crispin.. I hoped you see my yell for help :D
So is that measurement of 3.75x3.5" spot on in your book? And thanks for your kind words. I'm really pushing to get the Console finished now so I can start on the Console Room and furniture.
