Hi Rob
This is looking excellent.
Start from the top and work downwards, exactly what I did.  ;DLooking forward to seeing your progress.
Great stuff so far

Glad thigs are working for you.  And yes, if you have Adobe Acrobat Pro, the distance function is your friend.

Hi Robmaster

Good luck with it - looks like you're off to a brilliant start!! Everyone here loves a good build diary, so keep 'em coming :-)
(actually, I'm a bit guilty of not doing any of that myself for several months - work on my Tardis has stalled because I moved house and everything is still in a huge mess, I don't even know where my tools are and have no space to even store the box at my house until I've sorted things out.   ::)  I'm hoping to get back to it this summer though)

all the best
Chris

Kingbees, you are right about top down. I started with the lamp.
I got this lamp at Walmart, the fresnel at the local hardware store and the strobe from J C Whitney.

The bird feeder in the last picture came from QVC but I decided to stick with what I had.

that bird feeder is almost IDENTICAL to the lamp on the NST.

I picked up the same bird feeder in Fred Meyer, I think.
I couldn't think what to do with it, but I finally got some mileage out of it in one of my films...

An excellent start there to what is looking like a very sturdy build - and certainly an interesting way of tackling the roof issue.

I don't think it's too late (yet) to mention this, but your corner posts should extend 3/4" higher than the top of your sign boxes - a simple addition, just get a square plate of 3/4" ply or timber stock, the same width as your posts and glue it in place, then blend it in with filler.

Once you've done this, get another strip of stock - 3/4" (high) by 1.5" (depth) by whatever is the distance between the two posts and glue this in place on top of your sign boxes at the back where it meets the first roof stack.  Hey presto - instant roof detailing.

Hopefully I haven't muddied the issue or confused you, but if you want to check out what I'm talking about, in the thread on the new series 4 TARDIS prop - Kiwi_Doc posted an image of the roof showing this detail.  Don't worry, it's a detail that's been there since series one.

I can't think off hand where the thread is, but if you get stuck, just shout out and one of us will do some digging.

Purple, thanks for your advice.
I did take care of the post-top blocks as you will see in later photos, but I missed the strip between the blocks.
That detail is not visible in the BBC picture I used most often (below - zooming required), but is clearly visible in the second picture. I will be working on a retrofit.

Probably because of my very rusty trigonometry, the triangles needed some angle adjustments to get the roof pitch right.

The paint is tinted primer. The final color will be Cardiff Blue as described elsewhere on this site.

Hi again,

I'm not entirely sure we're on the same wavelength yet regarding what I was talking about - my fault as I more than likely did not make myself clear.

I didn't mean the corner post blocks that butt up against the first stack of the roof, I was actually speaking of the overall height of your corner posts - they ought (if you want them to) raise above the sign box by 3/4".   My quick fix suggestion was how to add this on to what you currently have.

Below, your mighty fine build:

And the actual prop roof - see how they both differ ever so slightly:

Of course, it's up to you whether or not you decide to omit this bit, it will still be an excellent build!
