Small steps, here.  Gathering the hard-to-find miscellany first.  Here's a piece of window glass -- does it look the part?  And tell me, do the bumps face outward or inward, on the box?

yep that certainly looks like the elusive pebble glass with the way the pebbles spiral around. i'm not sure which way the pebbles face but on my build i faced them outward good luck with the build

I don't know which way they're supposed to go, but I'd have the bubbles on the inside.  With them on the outside, dirt and grot will build up and be a nightmare to clean.   :)
My pilot's license? That's out back in the Cessna. Or perhaps you're referring to my license to kill. Revoked. Trouble at the Kazakhstan border.

I could give you the details but then I'd have to kill you, which I can't do because my license to kill has been revoked.

And thinking about it, with any building (think loo or bathroom windows) the flat side is always on the outside.  :)

Hi Deck5
Just to muddy the waters even more, on my visit to the Crich box, the pebbles were on the inside on some windows, and outside on others ??? However, the "Right" way to instal pebbled glass, is to have the pebbles on the inside, thus giving a superior (i.e. smooth) seal on the outer frame. No little crannies for water to migrate into.
If, of course, your box is to stand indoors, then this would not be a factor.

Your logic is sound, though I wonder if with glazing putty there'd be any ingress for water anyway.  That said, this image has me currently sold on outward-facing pebbles -- that, and the fact that the pebble glass just looks much better from the pebble side :)

The season 18 prop has pebbles on the outside (I saw it up-close at the BBC, as it's sometimes difficult to tell from photos). When I came to fit the glass to my build I asked a glazier - they did say it was normal to fit the pebbles facing inwards, but then again if some real police boxes as well as Tardis props have them facing outside then I'd say it's up to you based on what you like the look of best.

For me I like the way the texture looks when it faces outside, it's nice (from a reflections point of view) to still see the texture from all angles. Also, in terms of getting a good seal between the glass and the frame, I used blue silcone (rated for glazing applications) and simply trimmed off the excess with a pen-knife. A little tricky to get it out from between the 'pebbles' but not too difficult, and neat in the end.

Anyway, the glass you've got looks great - very old and authentic looking!  :D

cheers
Chris

EDIT:
If anyone's interested, here's the product I used to put my windows in as well as seal the build from the outside.

Coloured Silicones

It's good for building applications of all kinds. But the best thing about it is the colour - I used Steel Blue from the colour chart which really disappears against the colour of the Tardis - I used it to fit my signs as well (as it's an outdoor build). I was worried about standard clear or black silicone showing up, especially in difficult to paint places like the window panes.

Well Deck5, does that answer that your question?
Wait 'til you reach the "What shade of blue" time, then we'll be even more ambiguous ;D
Seriously though, as I was told when I started, it all comes down to the individual, in the end.
Good luck with your build ol'son

It does answer my question, yes, thanks :)  I appreciate the range of viewpoints.  And so far, for paint I'm thinking Behr Planetarium, over a suitable primer, as Dustyfro used on her excellent build.

A tiny test-post.  Bit short. :)  Likely will go for a smaller quarter-round when reality strikes.

Working on dimensions.  I've done a roof redesign -- mine's on the right.  Thoughts?
