Hey Timegirl,

How's your box coming along?  You haven't posted here in a while.

Have you been painting?  Did you manage to get the glass out of the frame?  Any more pictures of your box?

You're always doing this Colin - showing me up for my TARDIS tardiness  :-[

Thank you Colin! I appreciate it really

I do need the encouragement and probably a kick-up-the-butt to get me to complete the roof - so I am working on it now (apart from this tea break).

Glass still in frame
Blue paint still in tin
Inertia still not completely overcome

Started again with my roof - I gave up trying to mitre joint all the corners because they just didn't fit when I made them before.
First step looks high but it will fit quite low into the TARDIS.

don't look too closely

Mitre joints are tricky.  Your equpment needs to be set up perfectly or you'll get gaps.  I know I struggled at setting my mitre saw for hours, and I never was able to get it just right.

Your roof is looking good.  Have you figured out how you'll be doing the sloping bits yet?

I was going to use acrylic sheet for the pitched bit, until I worked out what it would cost  :o. So I'm using exterior ply and I've bought a tin of something called 'High performance liquid rubber!' that you can over paint (after 14 days) and it guarantees 'a leak free flat roof for 20 years' !
Anyway, can anyone comment on the pitch of my roof - I just rested a bit of ply either side to see what it would look like. The pitch is actually the same on both sides although it doesn't look it (3"). I have to admit to having used 'The Force' rather than a measure for some my build - bad I know, but if I keep worrying about the millimetres I'll never finish it.

If you close one eye, does it look about right?

Looking brilliant TG.

Looks pretty heavy too, are you hiring a crane to get it onto the top of your box? Hehe!!!

I really must purchase one of those daleks. Looks like he makes a great carpenter's assistant!

Thanks for the support  :D

The Dalek does make an excellent assistant Mark - He cuts the wood with his gun and then lifts it with his plunger. No need for the crane either as I've asked him to 'lift and hover'. All we have to do is 'Obey' - seems a small price for humanity to pay.

And it is so good to have a man about the place  ;)

But honestly, have I made the whole roof a bit too acute? (pointy, technically speaking) because I can change it.

TG + Dalek

Forgot to say.. May the 4th, be with you.

Looks really good to me TG - it's hard to judge accurately given the angle an possible distortion in a photo  (etc etc blah blah blah), but I can imagine that roof or clad and rubbereed and apinted and looking like a million buck no trouble at all!  I found that the roof pitch was very idffiicult to belive in until it was done - you just have to beleive that the measurements are right and then when it has 4 sidfes it magically comes together and looks roof-y.

Hi Timegirl,

I measured the angle on your picture at 11 degrees.  My roof is 15 degrees (which is what the Trench plans use) so I don't think yours is too pointy.  The angle looks good to me.  Somehow I think that when the roof is sitting on the top of your box, it'll look great no matter what the angle turns out to be.

Time Girl,

The roof is looking superb and well proportioned, so I would say you've done a great job and that there's absolutely nothing to worry about.  In fact, it looks pretty much identical to the way I did mine, even the pitch looks the same angle (my roof pitch is 10 degrees), so you'd have no grumbles from me on the over all look!

Great job there!

Thanks for your comments  :D
I realise now, it's so high up, I don't think I'll ever see the pitched roof.

I wanted to do a test-fit but I just couldn't lift the roof. So I took it apart, into the three sections and then I managed to get the first step on to the build by sort of pushing it up until it hooked over one corner post then dragging it across while balancing on the ladder  :-/.
It made me think..How on earth did any of you get the completed roof on?

The first two steps will just have to stay there now!

I'm happy - and it is, as Glen said, Roof-y  :)
