Hi All
Made a window (Took 2 days) and unusually for me a here's a bit of detail.
I've used 1in. square wood and made a backframe, then put the glass into position and made a front frame with T section with one side planed to the glass thickness of 4mm. This was stuck down using silicon seal. I've added the Georgian bars afterwards by by making small having joints at the cross points. They're painted white of course and now all I need to do is tidy it up.
Then...................hope it fits into the hole I've cut in the main body.

The wood I've used;

The finished article;

Only seven more to go.
Many thanks

Hi All
Here's a few window pics as asked for by Jon

Back frame

Glue round the outside lip, silicon the inside

Glass laid into position

Angle beading

Mitred beading laid on

Bricks to help set

Hope it's of help. I actually applied some blue paint to the roof yesterday but the heavens opened and the tarp was back on sharp. It's probably stuck so a rub down and restart is looking likely.
Many thanks

Hi All
Well the blue paint was a disaster, it didn't stick to the tarpaulin but I'd Isoflexed all the joints and seams again so the blue was green on top of this and much too light on the white primer. So I've decided to red oxide all surfaces on top of the white. Another layer of protection will do no harm and the blue should be darker and I hope uniform. Also managed to make all windows and give them a coat of primer and gloss;

I'll get a picture at the all red stage for a Blackwall Tunnel moment
Many thanks as always

KB - sorry to hear about the rain - mate.
The weather is unpredictable, I don' t understand how the weather forcasters on the daily news can predict weather, their more often wrong than right.

Wow, your build is looking great.  Sorry to hear about the colour problem.  Let me know how the red oxide works out, so I don't have the same problem.  I think the white primer is just too white.  I know some folks have tinted the primer first.  Did you use an undercoat before priming?

Those window are absolutely incredible.  Nice work in deed.

Cheers mate,
Jon

Looks lovely already!

I found it took two top coats to cover the white primer I used on my box, but I think it was because it was so cold that winter. When I repainted last summer I needed only one coat, even though I had white primer on over the new texture. Go figure.
Different paints, I suppose.

Red oxide is the left over primer from when I restored the K6, it came from www.unicornkiosks.com.
Here is another pic of the king bees build from a different angle, I think this will look great when the police box is finished, in its current colour it reminds me of the box in Wilson Stgreet in Glasgow for some reason.

Different colours cover better or worse than others.  If it wasn't EXACTLY the same colour of blue, that may have been the issue.  I know in my house, most paints took 2 coats to cover white primer, but my brother-in-law picked an especially annoying-to-paint blue which took around 7 coats.  If you talk to knowledgeable paint people, they'll recommend getting your primer tinted for certain colours (wish I'd talked to knowledgeable people before painting that blue room).  I understand the red which phone boxes are painted is another hard to cover paint - which is why the red oxide primer makes a lot of sense for it.

It's been my experience that if you ask nicely, stores will re-tint paint and primer for free even if you bought it from another store.

KB - my good man.  I am so happy to see your build near completion, yet so sad as well.  I have mixed feeling about my build being finished too.  I'll just build another or start on my K9. The 'old girl' is really looking, well absolutely smashing! Your windows worked out like a charm.
Love your pics!

Cheers,
Jon

That is friggin gorgeous.   :o :o    A picture with both of those classic boxes once fully complete ought to be sent to a museum or something, fan-blimmin-tastic!

I'm also a bit jealous of the fact that yours is living outside (in the wild) and that you have that nice long bit of garden to stand back and admire it in - gives it that true Police-Box scale somehow seeing a big solid structure on it['s own.       LOVE it.
