well i went accessory shopping. i wanted to get a lamp from the topic "who 8" posted. but it was a out of my budget and it was 16 inches tall my build is scaled down a bit to fit inside and i was worried that it would be to large for my box so i picked up this from home depot
lamppieces.jpg
it'll be a little work to modify it but i only spent $14.00 for all the pieces  ;D

next i stopped by the local glass company and what a find i made!!! they had all these different styles of glass about 18x18 inches textured glass ,colored glass specifically for hobbyists. i picked up a piece of what i call imitation pebble, their term was orange peel
imitationpeble.jpg
its not spot on but it does have a pretty cool texture to it and it was $5.00

i originally picked up a piece of light diffuser as suggested by scarf wearer but it cracked into pieces when i tried to cut it (maybe i shouldn't have used a skill saw  ::) ) but any way.... i hope to be getting some real progress done this week end maybe start on the roof after i get the doors finished

take care

thank you dale, i'm very pleased with the way its turning out ;D i think once i get the roof on i'll be bouncing off the wall and then get the signs on it..... i can't wait!!!! its been very addictive building it. i'm sure all my friends could care less when i talk about lamp parts and pebble glass and routed edges... and i'm pretty sure my wife is getting tired of that talk to. oh well i'm sure they'll be glad when its finished.

not much progress on the build this week end (duty calls at work) but i have been doing a lot of thinking about the roof of the box. since the roof will be one of the most visual aspects of the box i'd like for it to be as correct as possible.
mytardisroof.jpg
this is my guess at the measurements: step one is the same hight as the post above the sign-box roughly 2" high, is it 4" wide till it meets the next step or 2"? the next step is 4" high and 2" wide, same for the next? then the angle of the roof, from the last step, to the lamp housing is 2" high am i correct on this?

thanks

Hi Atomicgraph (My that's a mouthful... as the actress said to......)
Seriously, everybody on here will tell you that there's no golden rule about measurements. You have to go with what you think is best, hence; all the Tardises look slightly different.
However on the roof stacks mine are 3in for the top two and the pitch to the bottom of the lamp housing is also 3in, and in my humble opinion I could have gone a little higher on the pitch.
I'm not saying you should take my word as gospel, merely suggesting you have a look at mine to compare/evaluate how you think it would look on yours. Bear in mind that my sign boxes are 1in short in height making the bottom step appear too high.
Whatever you decide I'm looking forward to seeing the finished article in all it's glory
Well done

thanks chris your box is awesome. i see what you mean about the roof pitch. my build is a little shorter so i think that a smaller pitch will be ok how ever the width of the first step needs to be 2 inches so the extra post attachments will work out to the right width to fit on top

i guess the only way to know for sure is to mock up a section of the roof to get a better idea of how it will look

atomicgraph is my internet name i use it for every thing. sorry, i should have told every one my name a lot sooner: i'm Emil and i'm a tardis-holic

You can get some cardboard from refrigerator shipping cartons and use that to make a mock-up.  Plus it should be free to get from appliance retailers.

thanks bill, thats a great idea, but i've got enough scrap material laying around that i can mock up a corner section and get a round about idea

That looks great! Possibly the spaces between the words (particular around AND) are a little narrow, which runs the words together a bit, but the positioning looks spot on.
Are you able to share it at full resolution? I'm sure a lot of people would find it useful.

i'll adjust the letter spacing a bit later on today and i'll repost it as a bigger image. if any one needs the file i can email it to you as a pdf.
is the font a close match close? i used one font but it kinda looks like some of the text may be in a different font hard for me to tell

Use Times Bold instead of what you used.  I think it will look more correct.

well my doors are about 99% finished and i hope to be starting on the roof this weekend

[noIMG]http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z215/atomicgraphics/tardis-roof-mock-up.jpg[/img]

i'm kinda at a toss up on how i should do the roof the first image is a little chunker than the second. i like both which one looks better ? if i go with the slimmer roof i'll make the pitch an inch or so higher.
