It is also seen in The Girl Who Waited, as the Doctor opens it up we get a glimse of his tools as he tries to find the geeky glasses for Rory  but it's a nice come back! I hope we see more of it in future

This almost looks like one of those three-tier tool/fishing tackle boxes that you can find, well, in just about any hardware/home improvement store. It's hard to tell what color it is because of the lighting, but I'm thinking something in a dark brown? (It doesn't look dark enough to be black, and it has more "color?" in it than grey.)
