Not exactly boxes that I have 'built', but I read a couple of posts about Google Sketchup in this forum so I donwloaded it and have been fiddling with it for a couple of days. I've made 3 shells so far - the original, the slightly modified original from a few years later, and the 2005 version. None of them have any textures, I was just checking to see how the dimensions look. I think they are pretty close to the actual versions.

Even though it's a bit small and battered and not even square or properly symmetrical, I quite like the look of the  TARDIS from the Troughton/Pertwee era and I think if I end up building a real life version I may go for that :)

Spent msot of the day texturing the 2005 box (not my favourite, but there's lots of pictures of it about for reference). I'm quite pleased with the result, but I don't think I'll be doing any of the other boxes in a hurry as it's too much effort for me :) The railings are just there to show off the shadows.

That's fantastic! How did you do the texturing that well in Sketchup?

zbignievhamson looks terrific.
On a slightly similar note.. and I'm going to hijack your thread..

I have sketchup myself and managed to download some 2005 plans from slidin_sidewayz .
They are nice, and far better than any plans that I could draw. They claim to have measured one of the props, on which they base their plans. However using the ruler tool , an awful lot of it just does not tally with certain known measurements.
I'm unable to divulge sizes, but suffice to say that while certain areas of the plans are spot on, others, in my opinion are way out. I'm now totally confused as the plans look right. I suggest someone else take a look at these, if they have a minute. They are easy to find.

Anyway congratulations again on your TARDIS render.

Really impressive texturing you have going on there.

I textured the pebbled glass on my model, and that took me long enough to figure out!

Spot on render mate, next to a picture of the real deal, I'm guessing you'd have a job on working out which is which!

Sorry for the incredibly late reply here, maybe you're all dead by now who knows :)

I took quite a lot of time over the texturing using photgraphs of the real prop and texturing each individual piece. So, for example, each individual door panel is textured with a photograph of a door panel from the prop, stretched and skewed so it fits exactly. Same with the window panels, doors, sides of the base, signboxes etc.

It took a while, and if you zoom in the resolution isn't too good as they were only taken from a screen-sized photo.

And here it is photoshopped next to the garden shed...

That's a very good render and Photoshop job.  Now go make it real. :D

I'm not quite happy with the corner post caps, and also there is a little edging between the sign boxes and the first roof step on the real prop. Does anyone know of some good clear photos of this area?

Here it is next to the real thing (a "stolen" picture obviously). You can see the slight step above the sign box on the real thing which isn't in the model. Can't make out the corner posts very clearly though.

Hmmm... thought that looked familiar. Yes, I drew the original sketchup box, but breezy2000uk who measured the box (twice, and also the fibreglass one too) definitely got the measurements right. Perhaps my drawing up and subsequent sketching of the box was off. Hmmm...  I didn't think so. Still, mightily impressed that someone can download the software and pump out what this person has in such short time. Took me WEEKS to draw mine. Doodler, eh? Doubt it.
