ABBEY WOOD BOX in South East London, on Wilton Road.

I've three photo's of this box, but only one lines up with Google Street View, and its (unfortunately) the smallest view of the box.

I love this photo. Its one of my favourite photos in fact. So when it came to mapping the original photo onto the streetview, it became apparant that the original must have been taken from another moving vehicle, because everything lines up! The shops on the left are still there. Well, the lower portions of the exterior walls and they are all covered in ivy. The pavement on the left has been reduced in width by some 50% and the road widened as a result.
The tower blocks in the background all line up (which made life easy!) though the whole left side of the road has been totally redeveloped with new buildings and new low rise flats.

Hope you like.

Excellent thread can is suggest the Wimbledon chase box next little has changed

Hi oracle,

Love the way you've Time-Slipped those photo's!
The Hillingdon one unfortunately isn't correct....
The box actually stood outside the Golden Lion Pub (which became The Master Brewer)
The road on the right (where the GPO Phone box) is the western avenue leading up to Northolt airport
The two cyclist's I'm guessing were cycling towards Hillingdon Underground station
I've copied and pasted a google map photo of where it was (approx where that silver car is passing)
Incidentally how to you get rid of road names, etc on the google map programme?
Hope this helps!

Hi Pete,

You know, I did scratch my head a few times over the Hillingdon location and did consider the far side before going for the *wrong side* of the roundabout. Thanks for the correction and the heads up sir!

I have replaced the original with an "epic fail" revision, and the correct location is below.

Great thread Mark. Love the title!

I did wonder if people might think that an old box had appeared in the TV show "Timeslip" before adding a "S". LOL!

Just for Domvar, here is the Wimbledon Chase Box. The location hasn't changed much at all. (though its no longer a railway station)

Ow, thats the box that featured in the harrowing scenes of Police Box demolition isn't it?

From a research point of view a very useful documentary but other than that  :'(

celation

Wow. Love this thread.

I've always liked these timeslip-style images. Even better when a Police Box is involved.

lorisarvendu

This is a very bad attempt, but I think one of my photos can be made to line up very well, if you take the Google image from the slip road.  Maybe you can make a much better job of this than me, Mark?

Here you go...

Blackwall North version two:

Blackwall North Two.jpg

A pain because of the road signs, but the railings to the right fitted, and theres some nice shadows to the right of the box too that made it across the years....

Interestingly, whilst its easy to get the buildings to line up on both sides of the junction, the main building has been extended, so instead of the three main windows on the ground floor, theres now five - and that completely throws trying to map the image onto the building as it just doesn't look right. I've concentrated on lining up the three main windows (and corresponding upper floor windows) together with the shops on the far corner, and it all lines up.
It looked like a nice area back in the day!

Quite difficult to get it spot on because of focal lengths and such but I did the bet I could.

Only fitting that we include the first picture that Chris posted in the thread that started this topic.surrey.jpg

Dalekoracle

I love that image. Indeed, that was the montage that prompted me to do a timeslip of the Hampton Hill box.

Depth of field and focal distances are a real pain in the bottom, because, unless one has a photo taken in as near as dammit the same position as the original, its never going to completely line up... but its possible to get things pretty darned close. The distort option (under the transform menu) in photoshop has proven useful in being able to warp images to fit, and selected blending can hide a multitude of sins (so I am discovering LOL)

Glad that people seem to like my efforts. Its actually quite a challenge to make these image work.
