I am to the point of no return, after cutting close to 400 1/16" dado for the DVD racks to the corners and yesterday panel construction. Today a run to Ohio to grab some more Oak. Oh yeah an a glass store for Momma I have to keep her happy.
I will start to post the pics so far over the next few days to get caught up. Today I should have all the sides built. It's the planDSC03188.JPGDSC03198.JPGDSC03197.JPGDSC03189.JPGDSC03196.JPG
Thank goodness for double router stations, I regret tearing down the 3rd one now  :'(
Much more later,
Larry

My fingers are crossed.
Just made it back from Kenscraft Co. in Ohio. A $160 in Oak adds up real quick. I am figuring $80 of this is for the Tardis with the similar amount of board feet used already (23 bdft) plus the 22 1/2 just bought for $69.75 = $3.10 a board ft. Most the cost was plywood's for the base and 1/4 for door panels. Got a awesome price on accuride style drawer slides. under $8 is a great deal.
Time to make dust.

I have all the sides cut out and routed except the front door. That can't be determined until all sides are assembled and sitting on the platform.DSC03203.JPG
I am getting excited to see the stain on this beautiful Oak. Building this out of Oak is pretty hard to make this a budget build. I can say pretty confident that this can be built by most people for under $200. Not counting your time of course.

Tomorrow will be spent staining all the center panel inserts and then placing space balls in between all four side of each panel. Now that's always fun then glue and clamp this baby up.
So how much saw dust so far not counting the router tables, those alone would fill a 13 gallon kitchen can at least 1 1/2 times.

Hope to post some real pretty pics tomorrow with stained door panels.
I wonder is this going to work not being painted the Tardis Blue, since this is a in house piece or furniture it should be OK.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Larry

Time to watch the glue dry.
Then I will remove clamps and start to sand of glue marks and then finish the staining process.
Tomorrow I will apply the first coat of Poly and work mounting the three walls together on a temporary base and than start the two front doors.
My question is do I have both doors open separately or do I have a bi-fold hinge????? remember two DVD sections must slide out 100% of the way. I figure separate doors is the answer. My plans were to use concealed type Blum hinges. I may rethink this.
Tomorrow it will start to look like a Oak Tardis  ;D

I look forward to see what 3 coats of Poly will look like on this.
Tomorrow will be exciting setting the sides together, then this will allow me to figure the door opening and then start the build on the Police boxes. Now I wonder if I should plane down this thick 13/16" Oak to a thin 1/2" for the box's????
I am sure I will see what looks best.
Just a note all Oak is 13/16" it's what I buy at the lumber store any thinner cost a bit more from this place Kenscraft of Toledo Oh. They sell all exotic woods also. Something my Amish friend does not.
Cheers

Thank You, It's just the tools that helps.
Well I fixed that up simple enough now I guess I will build up the sides and then figure what should I use as glass acrylic cell cast which I have loads of or glass. This will be in a home with children? I guess I wait for my buddy to suggest or I will go safety first the acrylic route.

I sometime surprise myself on how fast things get done, it is all just steps one after another. Here is what I have for half the day so far,
DSC03219.JPGDSC03220.JPGDSC03221.JPGDSC03222.JPGDSC03223.JPG
Now I have to attach a couple braces to hold the panels square, to my surprise I have a 100% perfectly square 19 15/16" I had to sit down after that. If I was a smoker that would of been a time for one LOL

They fit perfect with enough room for brackets for the 100% drawer slides.DSC03228.JPGDSC03227.JPG
Time for the police box and sub-base for the roof.
Not sure if I may farm out the plastic sign or just rout the letters out then cover with paint and glass because I want to have the glass back-lit for ambiance,,, not sure if that's the right word.
Looks like a bad storm coming in better head back into the dungeon.

Time to build the police box's oh boy, thank god for band saws and planers.  ;)
DSC03229.JPGDSC03230.JPG
I am surprised that the pic does not show that I planed the wood nearly in half to 9/16" so I have room for some nice size letters.
DSC03231.JPGDSC03232.JPG
I made the police box so I can open one end and slide the glass in then seal it in with an end cap. I achieved this with a double wall construction on one end. I surprise myself, where does these ideas come from. I must admit I did waste a piece on my first attempt and that hurts after all the planing down to 9/16" and ruin one. lol
The fit is very good even with rounded corners.
Enough for this day. More tomorrow.
