Me and Alea broke up (don't worry though, I have a new lover). So I reclaimed K9.

I want to upgrade the old boy, and firstly I would like to get some decent black edging for the base. Are there any suppliers people know about?

Thank you
Luke

Well that sucks, but you're young.  As far as black edging, you can get by with black or dark gray pipe foam insulation tube.

as suggested, use foam pipe insulation (77p a strip from B&Q) Then spray it with a couple of coats of Black Plasticoat (plasticote) paint, available from any craft or hobby shop, This will seal it and give it a smoother better looking finish :)

WHOA HOW? I mean how did you manage to break up and reclaim the Birthday Gift? Also you are 16 they are not called Lovers, she is your GF. you must be 18 to have a "lover"  :)

Thanks guys :) At the moment I have grey inculcation tubing however, the paint just falls off. :(

Is there anything that is available in black, like rubber bumper car edging or something, that someone knows a supplier for?

She felt guilty having it after the long time I spent making it. And we were together for 1 year and ΒΌ, and we did everything together, so for my age that's as close to love as you can get. Mr geminitimelord how dare you! Wheres my death list when I need it, lol :P

thanks again

Try checking a marine parts place. Look for small boat "rub rails". They're rubber strips, usually semi-circled, and come in shades of grey, white, and black. Some are self-adhesive. The larger ones tend to have holes in them for bolts, so look for ones that you might want to put on a dinghy or the like.

Failing that, you could try looking for black pipe insulating foam in a hardware store. That might actually be less expensive than the rub rail rubber.

This looks like it may be the correct colour. But I'm unsure, any opinions. This is only one of many sizes they do.

What size tubing is used on K-9?  (In inches outside diameter)
I will check the stores around here in my neck of the woods.

My current ones are 4.5cm. Atm I have re-sprayed them in black Hammerite. Hopefully it will last longer with this paint, as I'm putting him into an exhibit at my school for our Open Day, along with other props I've made.

I'm short of monwy at the moment, so realy only need to find a sauce online for now. But thankyou very much! :)

I HAVE IT!!

Finally after testing plasticoat, multipurpose, Halfords car paint, and many others I have discovered a paint that clings to the edging!

Hammerite Smooth Black Spray Paint!! So far none has rubbed off. And it seems rather strongly stuck to the edging.

As a general note - most paints seem to adhere better with a suitable primer. You can get primer suitable for metal and fibreglass at an automotive shop (e.g. Halfords). Possibly the Hammerite has aspects of primerness about it...

I've tryed it with all the recommended primers too. But the foam seems to felx too much for post paints.

Anyone else who needs stockists for black K.9 bumpers, I reckon this company is your best bet in the UK:

That's where I got my new ones (the old ones were grey ones from Homebase. The paint didn't stick so I ditched 'em)
