It's been (I think) fairly conclusively discovered after much sarching for period kitchenware that the colinder bit was in fact a fruit basket.  It was a plastic unit that came in a set of three with stacking legs/poles between them (high rise fruit/vege bowls).  Someone found one in a garage sale and apart from cutting some of the gaps from the bottom of the 'bowl' (it was ribbed right around but the bottom section had flat plastic still between the ribs, unlike on the prop) & it seemed to be a dead ringer.   The odds of more plastic fruit bowl things from the 1960's turning up near a TARDIS fan like us seems low but stranger things have happened!

Being into old car stuff I've noticed the amount of car parts featured in Doctor Who as well as other Sci Fi stuff. There's the obvious Lucas indicators on the tops of the old pre-McCoy Daleks.

By the way, was too busy focusing on the kitchenware to notice some car parts in this picture:

The six lights on the panel near the bottom of the picture and the three on the adjacent panel to the right are old British car numberplate lights. I've seen them used on MG sports cars but I believe they were used on a lot of other British cars from the 60's too.

Still widely available too!

EDIT - just noticed on the Ambassadors Of Death thread that the lights have bolt heads either side of them which means they're specifically early MGB parts:

There's a considerable price difference in this one and the one above - the MGB part is about 4 times as much! 

While they would look cool (and elsewhere someone has used brass ones for his steampunk build - which look awesome) I'm afraid I have to burst your bubble on this one.

They are either ping pong balls or bare bulbs ( me and celation never agreed on this, though his pingpong balls really do the job nicely!). There are many photos from the 60's which show paint peeling off the back half, and you can clearly see light pouring through.

They do look a lot bigger. Was on a bit of a caffine high this morning, sorry!

Might be handy for a scale build though!

Sorry they're not bigger... but the ones from the subsequent seasons are larger (and better for the console you're working on).
