Just had to make a River Song Notebook.
The paper was plain white card-stock that i stained with tea to give it an aged look as well as the effect of wrinkles in the paper

This took about 20 minutes to make
Most of the time was staining the paper and waiting for the paper to dry.

That's slightly more than cool. That blue cover is incredible! It looks like the panels are embossed. Is that just a trick of the light, the way the panels' coloring was put on, or is that detail actually raised? (If they are raised, how did you do it?)

The Panels are not raised but they do look raised. I found pictures of the notebook on google and then used photo shop to turn it into a cover
The panels look raised because the pictures i used for the cover morph were of the actual prop which was raised.

A PDF of the cover can be downloaded at the  BBC site.

Wow! The Beeb is giving us help with creating a prop that we can actually use? Incredible! Just buy one of those proper sized "marble" covered notebooks and carefully glue that cover over the marbled one and there you go. (Although, you might want to first put an "under" cover of black - like a primer coat - to stop the marbling of the notebook's natural cover from bleeding through the River Song cover.)

And for you, Cardborduser: you should be very (dare I say extremely proud) of the cover you made ALL ON YOUR OWN without the use of any instructions or templates. THAT takes talent. That book, if I was in your place, I would save for my deepest, most private writings, like a diary. Then I'd make another version using the Beeb's guide and use that one for my "everyday" scribbles (appointments and such).

Where does everyone find all this stuff for the printouts and stuff on the BBC site. I can't find any of them. I must say, I think your journal there rocks.

This would be a good place to start for 11th Doctor things (which includes River's diary dust jacket):

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00s8dwd

The dust jacket is in a zip file containing a PDF of the dust jacket with instructions on how to fit it. (Check the right side of the page.) Also check out the Concept Art section for the various episodes.

You can check out the other series (and Classic series - http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/classic/ - which includes the 8th Doctor) from their main page: http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/dw.
