What do you use your TARDIS for?

Hi All,

I wanted to drop in, say "hi" and introduce myself.  I've been a fan of the good Doctor since I was ~6, and watched Jon Pertwee and companions being chased by someone in a hovercraft (my buddy knows the episode - he'd be happy to jump in and tell me which one it was) but after getting permission from my Wife on the weekend, and after doing a buttload of research, I'm planning on building a TARDIS in my backyard, for storage of my tools.

Now, that begs the question - What do you use your TARDIS for?  Is it purely for show?  A focal piece in your garden?  Do you store things inside it?  Hit up Traken on the weekend?

Darn it, you're right.  I recall it as being the actual 'first' episode I ever saw, and I know exactly where I saw it - at a friend's house when I was in first grade.  My memory isn't as good as it used to be...  (Hmm, maybe time to revisit the Pertwee years again...)

about the tardis thing

My cousin and i use it as a set for our fan made series of the 8th doctor adventures
the counsel is in a garden shed and the tardis itself is in my house.

If you think your memory isn't what it used to be now, just wait until you get to my age!

Welcome aboard!

Welcome!

I haven't started a build yet but I know in our current house that it will proudly materialize in front of the side entrance to the garage/workshop. :-)

I thought about having it sit at the bottom of the basement stairs and be the entrance there but rejected that for two reasons.  1) It would make getting anything of any length into an already hard to enter space like oh...replacing plumbing or floor joists.  AND  2) Only one side and the top of the police box would be really visible.

The plus side of having it as the side entrance of the workshop is that I can hang things like lab coats, goggles, and other odd pieces of clothing in it.  It will also act as a sort of "mud room/airlock" for the workshop so that the place stays warmer in the cold Northern Illinois winters.  (I need to properly insulate that place this winter anyway.  A $300 heating bill sucks and sucks badly.)

I'm leaning towards a larger 2005/2010 model, I believe, so I'm planning on making it a small toolshed.  (When I say 'small', it's not the TARDIS that will be small, simply the space left after I move in all of my tools.)

i haven't built a tardis yet myself but i am planning on building one from the 2005 - 2010 model. i am building this and am gonna use it just for show. i live on the ground floor on an appartment building and plan on having it stay on my patio just outside my patio door of my appartment. i'm also gonna use it as a halloween set also. being in canada i believe i will get lots of people asking me about it when it's all said and done.

Once my back get to the point where it will let me built my TARDIS (if it ever does) I'll be using mine to visit 1880 so I can stop by for a visit with Ida Lewis!

Hello and welcome

Ours is roughly a half size Eccleston/Tennant ish Tardis. We use it as a lamp in the corner of our open plan sitting/dining room. Its also got it interior decorated as a console room for the kids to play with and for an added bonus, an mp3 player dock installed in its circuits so its also a giant Hi-Fi! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pDGVoG9-nO4

Have built a couple already for friends. A practical use for a TARDIS in my case. A bookshelf for all of my "Who" books.IMG_0235.jpgIMG_0236.jpgIMG_0238.jpg

Ours is nearly finished (I need to post photos), and we plan to use it as an entertainment center,
