So I was watching part of my Key to Time box set, and I started wondering - has anyone here ever made or attempted to make the key?
Just curious, I'd kinda like to see it.

I'm not aware of any clear plastic replicas, but Brigitte Jellinek produced a plan for a card model, which I printed out and built once. It makes a nice little puzzle. Unfortunately, one of my daughters sat on it, so I don't still have it :(.

That is probably for the best, as it is too great a power for any one being to posses.

I had that paper one several years back. Had a hell of a time figuring it out. I would definitely like to have a plastic one with the tracer rod made one day.

It would be even better to have one made of glass!

Big SOLID chuncks of glass.

I suspect that the pdf at the link at the top of this page would be a good start :) Then you just have to settle on the scale you want.

Knock up a cardboard version first and measure the hell out of it.

I wonder if there's anywhere that will mould plastic to your specs, on a domestic rather than company level?

I was talking to Crispin last year about making such a prop and when the Key to Time box set came out, it really hyped up the notion for me.  After doing a load of research, the only thing that stumped me was its size - originally I thought it would be about 8" x 8" x 8" but having thought about it and knowing how the original was done, that size seems just a tad too big.

I did ask a guy who owns one of the key props about the size, but like all these original prop owners, he was as cagey as hell about it and wouldn't help.  I don't know what their problem is, they have the originals and it's not as if we'd make a replica and try to pass it off as the genuine article.  Hey ho.

7"³ or 8"³ feels right to me. Just a guess though  ::)

If someone has the time and inclination to get some screen caps of the prop from various angles of each bit, that might help out those who are keen to make a replica.

I know there were at least three versions, but they all went together in the same way.  Brigette's card temlates are good, but they're not quite right and I for one would be interested to pour over some pictures.

Building a replica would be fairly straight forward... if only I knew for sure what each bit looked like.

I'd be most grateful if anyone takes up the screen capture challenge - then I can add this to my "Replica props to make" list.  Obviously don't go out of your way though, any time between now and when I die will do.   ;)

Might be bigger than 8"³!

The picture doesn't show up on my machine.
I think shillpages.com is preventing the image from displaying to enforce the policy of getting people to copy images from the site rather than linking to them. The copyright and use section on shillpages says he'll come after us if we link to his images....  :o
Just copy it to photobucket and link to it from there and then Steve Hill will be happy.

It's because someone would make a replica that looked a lot better than the actual prop.
