Hey guys.  I 've been working on a sonic screwdriver for a bit now.  I've built this one to be rechargeable.  It has a battery built into the body that is charged through a port on the end. It's all metal with copper and aluminum as the base.  The grip is painted with a ivory spray and detailed with alcohol based markers.  2653826496_2d7b798a29.jpg 2653093522_588de2c6a5.jpg

Let me know what you think.

Thanks Karsten.  It's a big Universe.  Things are bound to be a bit different here and there.

In my hasty construction of my Mark II sonic screwdriver, I didn't prime the base properly.  So I decided to remove the painted finish for the copper and leave it natural.  I think I totally agree with Karsten here.  I have ended up with a steampunk screwdriver.

I didn't really post pics of the original take on it.  It's kind of like the pencils you use in kindergarten.  My friends call it the choo choo screwdriver after that note.  I just call it the mark one.

Honestly, I like the first one better. Indeed looks very steampunk and has an aged look like it's been around the universe a few times ;)

I carry it a lot.  It makes a sort of electrical arc like sound as it buzzes.

Man. Nice work...although, I can't shake the thought that if I picked it up, my hands would get greasy. ;)  Kinda like a auto shop air tool...
but yeah, VERY nice detailing!

:)  Not sure how to take that Moonpie!  Nah, I am glad you said that.  Below are pics of the original take on it.
At first it was a hybrid of old school and new school:

Then I decided to make an effort to emmulate a dfferent  metallic finish and cover the copper...(sorry cell pic)  ;)

This version also took on that cracked material as the grip.

Later still I restyled the handle after I saw the Doctor's screwdriver in Silence in the Library and Forest of the Dead.   I wanted something that was a little less polished after seeing the contrast of age in that episode.  So, it got a "dirty finish" as a result.
which take us back to the beginning of this post (no primer yada yada yada)

ABSOLUTELY IMPRESSIVE!

What materials did you use to do such a thing?

I have to admit that I absolutely love it. It is one of the best interpretations on the sonic i have ever seen and from a fellow Carolinian. I love the fact it lights up and is rechargeable.
I would love to see it in person. If you ever decide to part with it, let me know.

Can you post a video showing it working?

the_temporal_mechanic

Alas, this one is long gone, lost in space and time.  If you should see it, drop me a line.  I do miss it so.

Could you do a diagram or something as to how the charger/battery arrangement works

the_temporal_mechanic

Sure thing!  I have some links.  Give me a few and I will post that for you.
