1) How does one accurately re-create the eleven "stars" inside the Five Doctors Time Column?

2) What are those red and white tube lights in there, anyway? The're not fluorescent, surely?

Anyone?

Well here is what I came up with for my 3D column after looking at many photos. the top 2 levels are the same. After that the points start moving outwards. If you say the bottom one is 100% then next are 95% then 90% then 85% and so on.

They are made out of a material called Malkron. Google it and you'll see.

Holy Cow, I don't know how I'm ever going to build that...

What do you think, Purple? Accurate? I think you said the stars had eight points...?

I still can't see what Rob's done - if he were to post the images in something like Photobucket, I might be able to see his work.

As for the 8 pointed stars in the centre, yes, that is correct and is also the reason why there are lights in an 8 point array - each light has it's own point on the star.

I did take some pictures of the column and the gear system underneath it when I was cleaning this prop up, now I only know where two of the pictures are; a wide shot of the plinth and the column with no upper panels or frame work in place - and a close up of the inside of the plinth itself.  I'll have a root around and see if I can find the rest.  Because these were taken 13 years ago on a 35mm SLR, when I do find them, I'll have to scan them... but the scanner is playing up though.   :-[

PS.  I'm seriously lagging behind on all the posts on the board, so if you've asked me a question at all and I haven't answered, I probably won't have seen it.  Sorry guys... and gals.
